Bonus (submitted by Noelani at 05:55pm UTC)

I have a assigned a 20 DKP bonus to everyone in apprehension of our first raid.

The 20 DKP should enable raiders to have some degree of flexibility with their bidding during the first few raids, allowing them to assign their own relative values to early item drops, based on how much they 'want' a particular item.

For the sake of comparison, 20 DKP is equivalent to 10 kills of easy Icecrown bosses or 10 hours spent raiding. It is the estimated value earned for a single night of ICC25 raiding.
DKP Rules (submitted by Noelani at 01:35am UTC)

Full details of the DKP system can be found within the Raider's Compendium on the fourms, but the main principles of point earning and expenditure are underlined below.

Earning DKP

Raiders are awarded fixed values of DKP for their participation in and/or completion of various 'Events' during raid times. These events come primarily in the form of boss kills and hourly attendance, but there are other bonus DKP gains possible, as documented below.

In order to be eligible for DKP earnings, the individual player must be either present and active within the raid or available to join the raid upon short notice if they are outside of the instance on reserve status. Those AFK during a boss fight will not earn any points, as is the case with reserves who are unavailable when called upon.
Trialists earn DKP in precisely the same way as main raiders and retain the same bidding rights (see "The Bidding System" for more information).

The standarised DKP values for each event are as follows:

Punctuality Bonus: 2 DKP
Awarded to raiders who are present at the intended instance 15 minutes before the proposed Raid Start Time.

Raid Time/Cancellations: 2 DKP per Hour Raided/Lost
This is earned for each complete hour spent contributing to a raid or for each hour lost due to a cancellation e.g. a raid cancelled at the normal start time is worth 6 DKP.

Boss Kills: 1 to 5 DKP per Boss
If you are present for the kill of a Boss you are awarded DKP based on the difficulty or depth of progression for that Boss.
First Kills of a boss attract double points.
(See the 'Events' section at the top for specific boss values)

Boss Learning: 1 DKP per Hour
Whilst learning a new boss fight, attendees to a raid earn an additional 1 DKP per hour.

The Bidding System

Item drops from within a raid instance are won via bids conducted in the following format:

- Once a boss has been killed or a 'trash epic' has dropped, The Master Looter will link all items into the Raid Chat for everyone to see. Raiders will then have a few moments to perform final checks of their DKP.

- Each item will then be presented alone, with the announcement that the loot master is now taking bids on that particular drop.

- Raiders will be given a window of 20 seconds within which they may whisper the master looter with their proposed DKP bid. The bid can be any value from 1 up to the total amount of DKP the individual possesses.

- If an item is desired for an individual's off-spec, they should make this fact visible to the Master Looter in their bid (simply saying 'offspec', 'off' or 'os' will suffice).

- Where the Loot Master him/herself has expressed an interest in an item, a different Loot Master will be nominated for that bid to maintain the integrity of the system.

- Main Spec bidders will take priority over off-spec with each item, so if there is ever a 'main' bid, it immediately overrules any off-spec bids.

- The highest bidder(s) win the item(s) for an amount equal to the highest of the non-winning bids(s) +1, providing they have enough DKP. In the case of a duplicate item drop, the top 2 bidders pay DKP equal to the bid of the 3rd highest bid +1.

- In the event that there are multiple highest bids of the same value, those who made the highest bids are asked to re-bid until there is a clear winner. This second round of bids is open only to those who made the highest bids in the first round.

- In circumstances where someone is bidding for their main-spec, this will immediately overrule any off-spec bids and the winner will receive the item for the second highest Main bid +1, or in the case where there are no other 'Main-spec' bids, they win for 1 DKP.

- If noone wants an item for either mainspec or offspec, it will be disenchanted and added to the community bank.

In order to illustrate the bidding system, below are a few examples of it in practice:

Scenario 1
A staff drops and the master looter announces that it is available for bidding.
Raider A bids 20 loot points, Raider B bids 35 loot points.
Raider B wins the item for a value equal to the second highest bid +1. In this case Raider A was the second highest, so B wins for 20+1... 21.

Scenario 2
Two tier tokens of the same type drop from a boss and bidding commences.
Raider A bids 14, Raider B bids 29 and Raider C bids 60.
As this is a duplicate item drop, the two highest bidders pay the third highest +1. The third highest bid is 14, so Raiders B and C win an item each for 14+1... 15.

Scenario 3
A caster dps spicific wand drops i.e. it has +hit rating on it.
Raider A, a healing priest, bids 9 DKP and announces the bid is for 'offspec'. Raider B, a warlock, bids 13.
As main spec bids automatically take priority over those for offspec, Raider B wins the wand for the minimum possible value, 1.

Overruling Bids

It is in the primary interest of the raid force that items are distributed to those who will make most use of them in a raid context. Upgrades to appropriate Classes/Specs in turn benefits the raid performance as a whole. As such, officers reserve the right to overrule bids which they feel are sub-optimal. Off-Spec bids are most welcome and should be encouraged, it's actually a great benefit to the raid group to have capable dual-speccers, but in cases where someone wins a questionable bid that may not benefit the raidforce, officers may step in. Remember that the Raid comes first and that upgrades to your fellow raiders will benefit you too!
